Have you experienced the new Gmail inbox updates?
Under the recent Gmail inbox updates, tabs emails are divided into three sections/tabs:
- Primary
- Social
- Promotions
What has everyone talking is that Promotions is shoved over to the far right. So emails that were once front-row-center are now off on their own where, some say, they can be ignored. From a recent article by by Kren J. Bannan, How Gmail inbox change affects email marketers, over five million companies are using Gmail and Google Apps for Business and marketers are looking for workarounds. Some are asking people to drag emails back over into the Primary folder. Others are even suggesting they change their Gmail settings back to the old arrangement. That may be a challenge.
But is the new Gmail look really affecting results? Well, one provider, MailChimp, claims that open rates have dropped from 13% to a little more than 12 with the new tabbed view. Not exactly a nose dive, but definitely something to keep an eye on!
